By J. Choudhry/KARACHI/Editor Corporate Ambassador

Do business with Allah and share your income with the people the way Allah likes. Nazir Ahmed Vaid, Pakistan’s leading social entrepreneur and Chairman of NexSource Pakistan Limited stated this while speaking as a Chief Guest at the 6th Corporate Ambassador Awards, held in Karachi on Nov 25, 2016.

“Allah has created enough and Allah has not created poverty at all.  If poverty exists in the society, it is because man refuses to share. In every business that we do, we try to have a very strong partner to be successful in our business,” he said.

dsc_0272

Think about Allah making your partner in business _ with a firm commitment that a certain percentage or a good percentage of whatever you make in your business, you will share with Allah or you will share the way Allah likes _ that is the social entrepreneurship.

video-grab14

“So whatever business I do, I make it is sure that I make 15 percent and 85 percent goes back to community in some way or the other,” he said.

dsc_0269

It creates some impact on the community, it extends some benefits to society especially those who really need support, he said, adding, people like us can improve lives of deserving people in the society …it can make life better and easy _ it is social entrepreneurship.

video-grab15

“Appreciating what Javed Mahmood is doing and appreciating people who have some extra ordinary talent, doing some wonderful work, he (Javed) is recognizing them, encouraging them by acknowledging their success _ so he is also, in fact, a promoter of social entrepreneurship. I appreciate his efforts, wish him all the best, urge him to keep expanding this horizon and go to more cities to promote this mission, said Nazir Ahmed Vaid.

video13

He stated: “Pakistan is now bouncing back, we went down as low as we can go. We have suffered a lot, laid our lives, it is for the next generation that will reap benefits of bouncing back. Several positive developments are taking place in Pakistan _ think about CPEC _  we were unable to utilize great reserves of coal, but now we are going to use it, we are entering into industrial revolution, after agricultural revolution and we are now seeing technological revolution. Believe me Pakistan has a lot of potential of growth, development and prosperity, he said.

stage-irtizakazmi-speaker

dsc_0223

Mr Irtiza Kazmi, chief of Global Home Remittance of National Bank of Pakistan also highlighted the social entrepreneurship concept. He said that in the past he had been talking on banking business, but this time he would like to highlight the most important issue _ appreciation and acknowledgement and social entrepreneurship.

video-grab8

He said that many billionaires in the world are doing social entrepreneurship.

“We are lucky to have Mr Nazir Ahmed Vaid with us today, who is a great promoter of social entrepreneurship in Pakistan,” he said.

dsc_0222

What is social entrepreneurship?

Social entrepreneurship means _ a business venture by a team/group of creative and competent people who run a sustainable business and share their income with their people and the community.

This is what Mr Nazir Ahmed Vaid is doing in Pakistan.

dsc_0224

“We need people who appreciate, encourage and support others who are doing good work, showing commitment with their work, business, profession and with the people,” he said.

He pointed out that a rat race is going on in making money and leading luxury lifestyle in the society and our youngsters are getting education just to get a good job or good business.

Appreciation, acknowledgement and social entrepreneurship are inevitable in our society to change the culture, society and life of the people.

dsc_0225

He said: “We appreciate Javed Mahmood Chaudhry sahib for bringing outstanding people from different walks of life at the forum of Corporate Ambassador to appreciate their struggle, achievements”.

Everyone sitting in the awards programme or those who read/listen this, must appreciate those who are doing good work and desist from the culture of leg-pulling, he said.

dsc_0193

Pakistan earning profit in trade with Belgium: Rajpar

pakbelgium

Corporate Ambassador/KARACHI: Pakistan is earning a significant profit in bilateral trade with Belgium. Mohammad A. Rajpar, President, Pakistan-Belgium Business Forum pointed out this in a dinner-reception hosted in honour of Belgian Ambassador H.E. Mr Frederic Verheyden on Tuesday.

In his address Mr Rajpar, President PBBF stated that in 2015 Pakistan’s exports to Belgium recorded a new high of Euros 379.8 million comprising mostly of textiles whereas Belgian exports to Pakistan recorded slight decline in 2015 amounting to Euros 314.71 million.

On 22nd November, 2016 PBBF took the initiative of organizing a Belgian menu dinner in honour of H.E.Mr. Frédéric Verheyden which was attended by PBBF members as well as renowned individuals from the business and government circles.

In addition to Diplomats from Russia, Switzerland, U.K., U.S.A., etc attended.   H.E.Mr. Frédéric Verheyden appreciated PBBF’s initiatives will cement bilateral relations between the two countries. He informed about participation of a Belgian company in defense exhibition IDEAS 2016 and expressed optimism of a positive outcome. He added that he will go to Port Qasim tomorrow in order to visit FSRU Exquisite, a Belgian flag vessel anchored at PQA. H.E.Mr. Frédéric Verheyden also presented the certificate from the Fund Christoffel Plantin to Sister Jeanine Geuns in recognition of her extraordinary work at the Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC) in Manghopir.

Pakistan–Belgium Business Forum (PBBF) was formed in April, 1997 under the patronage of Royal Belgian Embassy. The Ambassador of Belgium is the Patron in Chief of this Forum. PBBF is accredited by Federation of Belgian Chambers of Commerce and has a MOU with Brussels Enterprises Commerce and Industry to encourage bilateral trade and business activities between the two countries.

Our objectives are to encourage and promote business ties, mutual understanding and friendly relations between the business communities of the two countries whilst our membership of 58 companies encompasses a diverse range of business activities such as Shipping and Freight Forwarding, Textiles, Oil and Gas, Manufacturing of Building Materials, Cement, Glass, etc. with varying degrees of collaboration with Belgium.

PBBF enjoys a tremendous reputation amongst other Fora as well as business and official circles. Pakistan Belgium Business Forum (PBBF) also organizes cultural events from time to time to bring the people of Belgium and Pakistan closer together. In this vein, PBBF organized successful Belgian Food Festivals at Pearl-Continental, Karachi on 19th and 20th November, 2005, at Marriott Karachi which was supported by the Belgian Federal Government as well as the Royal Belgian Embassy in Pakistan on 13th November, 2010 and 14th November, 2014. On each occasion, Belgian chefs and musicians were specially flown in.

Since its founding in 1997, the Forum has focused its activities on promoting and encouraging bilateral trade and investment and has strived for the development of the business relationship between the two countries. PBBF prides itself on many firsts e.g. being the first Pakistani business organization to avail the EU’s Asia Invest program; securing accreditation by Belgian Federation of Chambers of Commerce (FCCIB), Belgium Luxembourg Chambers of Commerce Abroad (BLCCA) & signing a MOU with Brussels Enterprises Commerce and Industry (BECI) to encourage bilateral business activities; sending delegations to Belgium from 6th to 8th September, 2004 and again from 29th to 30th November, 2005 organizing seminars on the introduction of the Euro and advent of WTO.

Pakistan – Belgium Business Forum (PBBF) was formed in April, 1997 with 14 founder members under the patronage of Royal Belgian Embassy. His Excellency Mr. Wilfred Geens was the Ambassador of Belgium in Pakistan and Mr. A. H. A Ahmed was the first President of PBBF at that time. Mr. Abid Husain was the Trade Commissioner and fully supported the initiative. Thus, the credit for forming PBBF goes to these three “founding fathers”. The Ambassador of Belgium is the Patron in Chief of this Forum. PBBF is accredited by Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Belgium and Luxembourg and has a MOU with Brussels Enterprises Commerce and Industry to encourage bilateral trade and business activities between the two countries.

Quetta Carnage- Who is responsible?

quetta-police-training-attack

Mukhtar Ahmed Butt/KARACHI: 24 October was another darkest day in the history of Pakistan when 3 terrorists carried out deadliest attack on Police Training College Quetta around 22:50 hours and killed 65 under training police personnel besides wounding 122 due to sheer negligence of provincial government.

It is no more a secret that Pakistan is in state of war, RAW agents are very active in Baluchistan and FATA, banned outfits are operating under different names and cover, internal disorder is at its peak, terrorists are active in Karachi, trains are being attacked in Baluchistan, isolated acts of terrorists are going on all over Pakistan, therefore it calls for highest vigilance and special security arrangements, that was missing at all. Apart from this India continues to violate our LoC, working boundary and busy in creating more problems for us by sending agents in our country aided by facilitators to disrupt normal life of people.

In fact it is routine with Ministry of Interior to keep issuing such terror threat warnings about the terrorists to the provincial governments to take extra precautions. This has also been acknowledged by the Chief Minister Baluchistan while talking to media in the glittering lights of TV reporters that he had received alert 4 days earlier. Question arises if that is the case what extra security measures were taken by him as chief executive of the province? It will be interesting to note that IG Police while talking to media made startling revelation that on 6 September 2016 he requested the government for funds to raise the wall of Quetta Police Training College along with other works but it fell on deaf ears because they have their own priorities.

This training college was attacked in 2006 and 2008 and it is now after 8 years that once again the terrorists attacked this training college with very heavy casualties. This in fact has been the third deadliest attack by terrorists after the attack on APS Peshawar. Attack on lawyers on 8 August 2016 in civil hospital Quetta where over 70 lawyers embarrassed shahadat should have woken up the government but who cares. It was good to see that immediately after the attackers were killed the IGFC, Home Minister, IG Police and Chief minister talked to media and gave their view punt.

The IG Police was frank on the media and admitted that he had requested the government to raise the wall of the training college but no action was taken by the provincial government. The Commandant Tahir Naveed is one of the competent officer of Police service and an ex army officer. I have personally known him like other army officers he is very much security minded. His contribution in improving security while in District East Karachi has been exemplary. I talked to him to get first hand information and what I gathered is summed up in the succeeding paragraph. After assuming the command he carried out security audit of the training college Quetta in the light of responsibilities and resources available. Based on the threats fool proof security plan was made and submitted to IG Police. While doing so list of soft targets and vulnerable targets from security point of view was prepared. There is no in built security mechanism in college except posting of security personnel according to the requirements. But no one bothered to go through the recommendations submitted by the commandant and the result is before us. To escape the occasion the commandant has been made scapegoat.

The people of Baluchistan who lost their dear and near ones must know as to who is responsible of this tragedy. Why provincial government did not provide adequate resources for the security of the training college as demanded by the commandant duly authenticated by the IG Police while talking to media? It is not a rocket science? When did chief minister visited last the college would also reveal his priorities and concern about the security Quetta is under constant threat of terrorists due to RAW activities and other anti state elements and miscreants; they have stepped up their activities after the arrest of Indian Naval serving officer commander Kulbhoshan Yadev who admitted that he was sent to carry out terror attacks in Baluchistan. The Police training College is located 20 kilometers away from Quetta city all the more reason that walls should have been raised as high as 20 feet at least with three corridors of security to thwart any attempt by terrorists, with proper all-round fence, CCTV cameras with high pixel capacity cameras, light sensors and with proper deployment of police with automatic weapons instead leaving it open making it simpler for the terrorists to enter and do the damage that is what we witnessed.

Enemy has succeeded in dividing this nation and using psychological war tactics to shatter the confidence of people of Pakistan in the country’s leadership which is otherwise at logger heads, the provincial government, security organizations, and engaging us in blame game so that we continue fighting amongst ourselves.

Unfortunately our media is building up different stories on this terrible tragedy in the light of analysis by those who are totally ignorant and devoid of common sense and know very little role of different security agencies in the country and their modus operandi. Wrong criticism, misstatement of facts, talking against the ground realities further confuses the nation. There is no point in getting divided on the issue. There is definite need to define code of conduct while deliberating on national tragedies and role of army.

It is not the responsibility of the army to provide security to colleges, universities. However commander Southern Command should also give his input being over all in charge of security of the province. How such high profile installation was overlooked from security point of view? It is worthwhile to narrate the story in nut shell as to what actually has happened on the ground when the terrorists struck the police personnel in the training college. It is very unfortunate that the army being the protector of the nation gets targeted first. Quetta police college incident is the case, facts needs to be brought out so that people are not carried away through malicious propaganda. 3 terrorists entered police training college located at Sarayab Road 20 kilometers from Quetta during night of 24 October at about 22:50 hours. They entered a barrack with one entrance only and started indiscriminate killing. One of them exploded himself in a crowded barrack room immediately on entry. Another terrorist after killing recruits positioned himself at the entry. The third went around and after locating killed the unarmed recruits. This all happened in 15 minutes. The officers at the college informed the authorities around 2300 hours and anti terrorist squad reached there in 10 minutes. They tried to advance but were pushed back by terrorist fire. In the mean time FC Special operations wing reached around 23:15 and engaged one of the terrorist. Army was informed at about 23:10 hrs and the Light Commando battalion under their Commanding Officer and Brigade Commander reached the location after 20 minutes, reaching there organized themselves in battle formation and were fired upon but our sniper shot him dead and moved from room to room to clear and rescued over 400 recruits hiding. Capt Rohullah approached the room where third terrorist was hiding when challenged he blew himself injuring 6 members of commando battalion. Those criticizing army should know protecting Police College was not an army responsibility. Army response comes in 3rd tier as per SOP. The police, Rangers or FC and then army.

When army arrived 99% damage was already done. Now one million dollar questions firstly why provincial government did not provide funds to Commandant Training College for the improvement of the security and defense of the college? Having received advance terrorist threat why extra security measures were not taken? What is the justification in suspending Commandant and other officers when their written recommendations on such sensitive issue of security were ignored? The fact remains it is the provincial government that is responsible for this great tragedy where so many young recruits were killed and there is no justification for them to stay in power. By now chief minister should have picked up courage to tender his resignation instead looking for scapegoats.

They have funds to buy expensive cars, have enough money to indulge in corruption. Recovery of 64 cores of cash from the residence of secretary Baluchistan was slap on the face of provincial government. A small chunk of this money if it had been spent on the security of the college we could have saved lives of young recruits. They have no money for the welfare and security of people including their protectors. What a shame.

Prince of Saudi Royal family flogged in jail

DUBAI: A prince of Saudi Arabia‘s ruling Al Saud family was given lashes in a prison in Jeddah as a court-ordered punishment, a Saudi newspaper reported on Wednesday, less than a month after the kingdom executed another prince for murder.

The brief report in Okaz daily did not disclose the offence for which he was being punished but said the unidentified prince was also ordered to serve a prison sentence. The flogging was carried out by a policeman on Monday after medical checks to ensure the prince was healthy, the paper added.

A spokesman for the oil-rich Gulf kingdom’s Justice Ministry was not immediately available for comment. Saudi Arabia, a leading Arab ally of the United States and the birthplace of Islam, follows the strict Wahhabi Sunni Muslim school and gives the clergy control over its justice system.

A Saudi prince was executed in Riyadh on October 19 after a court found him guilty of shooting dead a fellow Saudi, official media reported, in what Saudis said was the first execution of a prince since the 1970s.
Prince Turki bin Saud al-Kabir had pleaded guilty to shooting Adel al-Mohaimeed after a brawl, the ministry of interior said. Saudi social media users interpreted the rare execution of a prince as a sign of equality under Islamic law.

US warns India of terror attacks of Daesh

Corporate Ambassador/NEW DELHI: The US Embassy in New Delhi has reminded American citizens in India to remain vigilant to threats based on media reports that the Islamic State terror group could carry out attacks in India. The ‘reminder’ is not a specific travel advisory but merely a call to attention to the ‘worldwide caution’ issued by the US State Department last month.

“Recent Indian media reports indicate ISIL’s desire to attack targets in India. The U.S. Embassy warns of an increased threat to places in India frequented by Westerners, such as religious sites, markets, and festival venues. All U.S. citizens are reminded to maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness as detailed in the State Department‘s Worldwide Caution of September 9, 2016,” read the statement tweeted by the US State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs.

The State Department has two categories of notices to warn American travellers of potential dangers. While a ‘Travel Warning’ for a particular country asks travellers to consider if they want to visit the country at all, a ‘Travel Alert’ is usually reserved for short-term risks like cyclones or other weather events.
India however was part of the ‘Worldwide Caution’ the State Department issued in September. The note on risks in India read, “India continues to experience terrorist and insurgent activities which may affect U.S. citizens directly or indirectly. Anti-Western terrorist groups active in India include Islamist extremist groups such as Harkat-ul-Jihad-i-Islami, Harakat ul-Mujahidin, Indian Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Mohammed. Past attacks have targeted public places, including some frequented by Westerners, such as luxury and other hotels, trains, train stations, markets, cinemas, mosques, and restaurants in large urban areas.”
