Zardari to become President as Nawaz floats idea of forming PDM-like govt

ISLAMABAD: Co-chairman of PPP Asif Ali Zardari is expected to become President of Pakistan, once again, as PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif today floated the idea of forming a PDM-like government because N-League is unable to form the next government without the support of the political parties.

In Thursday’s general elections, the PTI-backed independent candidates stunned the nation by winning around 100 seats while the PML-N emerged as the single largest political party. After independent candidates, PML-N is believed to win about 90 seats of the National Assembly.

Notably, PTI was not allowed to contest polls as the ECP rejected its intra-party polls and withheld its bat symbol, and PTI leaders contested elections as independent candidates with their stunning performance that surprised everyone in the country and abroad.

Meanwhile, a few weeks before polls, the PPP floated the idea of nominating Asif Zardari as its candidate for the President of Pakistan. This has become possible with the PML-N supremo’s idea of forming a coalition government. As Nawaz Sharif is the candidate for the Prime Minister, the PPP co-chairman would love to become President of Pakistan and the N-League would have no other choice but to oblige Zardari.

Moreover, in the coalition government, the PML-N leaders would have to offer some ministries to PPP, JUI-F, MQM, and other partners in the new government.

Importantly, the Shehbaz Sharif-led PDM government has disappointed everyone because of bad governance and a flopped economic performance. How the PDM-like setup, led by Nawaz Sharif would be able to deliver better than Shehbaz Sharif’s government, it would be clear in a few months, once Nawaz Sharif-led coalition government comes into power.
